Dear G.U.C.I. Alumni:

Greetings from Zionsville!  As I pen this to you we are about to begin the Shabbat of NFTY-Tute, the end of another wonderful summer here at camp.  It was our 49th.  Camp was great, just as you may remember it, Anaf Project, Yom Sport, Shabbat song sessions and campfires, etc.  New faces, same great Ruach.

Plans are in the hopper for our 50th anniversary alumni celebration.  Please save Labor Day weekend 2008 on your calendar.  We will be sending you registration information in the near future.  There will be a gala camp Shabbat  for Alumni and their families here at GUCI that weekend.  We will also have activities on Saturday capped off by a concert!

To help commemorate our 50th anniversary, I have been working on gathering articles for an alumni memory book.  Volunteer editors from each of the five decades of our camp’s life have received interesting and touching reminiscences from camp alumni.  There is still time for you to contribute your thoughts.  Most articles are one or two pages in length.  They are on a variety of subjects.  Many used these suggested topics:

1.    Love of My Life - (stories/essays from those who met their spouses at camp)

2.    Higher Calling - (stories/essays from those who have gone on to become Jewish professionals)

3.    Friends for Life -  (stories/essays of the life long friendship that were formed at GUCI)

4.    Sounds of Laughter - (humorous camp stories ? a long list no doubt exists)

5.    Shabbat  - (memories of Shabbat, campfire, Havdalah, Saturday afternoons spent at camp)

6.    How camp has impacted my life/Jewish identity

7.    How my camp experience helped me be a better parent

8.    What camp has meant to my children.

9.    My important camp role models and what they taught me.

10.  How GUCI helped me help others

Send you article directly to me at RKLOTZ@URJ.ORG .  I’ll be your editor.

If you have pictures that we may include in the book, please send them to Ilana Gildenblatt at IRGPLH@aol.com.  If the picture is not digital, just take a digital picture of the picture with your camera and email that to Ilana.

Lastly, there will be a chapter of lists of Leadership Staff in the book.  We would like to be able to include the names of all Directors, Program Directors, Unit Heads and Song Leaders from 1958 to the present.  This is a big task and we need your help.  What we have so far is posted on the alumni website (http://guci.urjcampalumni.org).  Please check the list and email additions or corrections to Ilana at IRGPLH@aol.com.  Thanks for your help.

Remember to save Labor Day weekend 2008 for our alumni celebration at camp.  Send me your article and check the lists on the website.

Are there any more Hoda’ot?  Benches up!

Ron
