Dear G.U.C.I. Alumni:
Welcome to
the G.U.C.I. Alumni website. Shalom from Zionsville.
We have just completed another wonderful summer here at camp
and are already looking forward to 2008.
2007 has
been another wonderful year here at camp.
Of course the spirit at camp was just as
overwhelmingly great as always. Friday nights in the
Chadar rocked the house. T'fillot were beautiful, Chug
presentations fun, Yom sport filled with ruach and cheers.
Camp is just the way it should be, the way you remember it.
A few
years ago we instituted a new program here called "Tikkun
Olam". Two
former staff members came up with the idea.
Every afternoon during the sessions, a cabin of kids
and their counselors join two Tikkun Olam specialists and a
faculty member on a trip off camp to work in various
projects helping the community.
Of course, this gives us a great opportunity to talk
with our campers and staff about repairing the world, making
the world a better place.
This year
we were fortunate in finding a summer-long project
rebuilding and cleaning an Orthodox cemetery here in town.
The cemetery was in disrepair.
Each group pulled weeds, painted curbs around graves,
planted, etc. By
the end of each session our campers were able to see the
remarkable change we had made.
We culminated each session's Shiur program with the
entire camp at the cemetery, dedicating our hard work to the
Jewish community and saying Kaddish. It was a powerful experience for all.
We are
planning for the future.
On Labor Day weekend, 2008, we are going to have a
G.U.C.I. Alumni Shabbat at camp and celebrate our camp's 50th
anniversary. A committee has already begun planning
the event. You will hear more about this. For now, pass the word
and save the weekend. We want everyone to come back to
camp for the party.
Wishing
you all a wonderful 5768.
Ron
